On Wednesday 22nd March 2017 Miramar Executive Search, in partnership with Elite Performance Partners, held a Leadership Forum for 110 senior executives and business leaders from globally listed corporates, privately owned firms and the investment community to discuss how to inspire ‘High Performance Leaders for Tomorrow’. As an international executive search and leadership firm, Miramar work with senior executives globally to advise on attracting and building high performance in the workplace. We hosted the event to offer business leaders the tools on how to be ‘future ready’ to tackle their own organisational challenges to realise the full power and potential of people.
The evening commenced with a keynote speech by Andy Salmon on how he has applied his learning from leading in conflict, having spent 36 years in the Royal Marines, to help senior leaders and teams grow stronger through ‘Co-Creating’ and fuelling a strong collaborative workforce.
The four panellists in discussion on leadership, high performance and the importance of culture and group values, were:
- Andy Salmon – ex Commandant General Royal Marines & Senior Business Advisor has experience across the military, business and sport
- Anton Oliver – ex All Blacks Captain & Head of Equities at M&G Investments has experience in sport and business
- Lucinda Pullinger – HR Director Rugby Football Union has worked in sport and business, previously working at Shell and Accenture
- Anthony Eastwood – HR Director Rolls Royce Motor Cars has worked across the world in different company cultures and environments
The panel used their unique and diverse blend of experience to serve as a powerful catalyst to engage the audience with content to help influence and improve their approach on performance, culture and growth. The key learns were that to achieve high performance, an organisation must focus on the following:
- Leadership coaching and mentoring
- Upskilling talent
- Co-Creating
- Having an engaging culture
- People need a purpose
- People need to be accountable
We learnt that leadership is less about delegation or empowerment, more about Praxis – engage, apply, exercise and realise ideas.
A high performing team is more than a group of people who work together. It is a group of people who share a common vision, goals, purpose and who collaborate, challenge and hold each other accountable to achieve outstanding results.
At Miramar, we know that finding the right people for leadership roles at your organisation is not the only thing that matters when it comes to building a successful and motivated organisation. Leaders need to understand how each person will complement the others as well as how to promote an engaged culture of trust and communication. Having a sense of common purpose is evident in teams and organisations that are highly successful.
Miramar would like to thank all the panel for their great insight in how we can all perform to a higher level. Also, thank you to Rikki Marr for his live illustrations that really brought the discussion to life… “if you can see it and believe it, then you can achieve it!” – Arnold Schwarzenegger.
