THE CHALLENGE
Miramar was retained by the Board of one of the largest and highest profile technology research organisations in the world. The organisation is a division of a global telecommunications infrastructure and solutions vendor. Our client wanted to engage an individual who could both lead the overall direction of the organisations research but also create and lead the architectural development company wide. With this in mind, our client was keen to seek out a leader with experience of leading both disruptive research and drive paradigm shifts both within the organisation and across the industry as a whole. They were also aware of a lack of diversity in their leadership team so we were tasked with identifying the top female research leaders in the communications sector.
THE SOLUTION
The candidate profile for the role was exacting and highly unusual, and our global search focused on leaders with deep research and development expertise, with an emphasis on executives already in the telecommunications and networking technology sectors, encompassing 6G expertise and beyond. We researched industry wide and within academia to identify the most influential leaders who were also commercially minded and innovative in their approach to research. Ensuring market coverage within the small number of relevant vendors was achieved by utilising our wide network of contacts, to identify pockets of research and commercial excellence, target the best individuals and make informed decisions.
RESULT
We approached key targets confidentially to successfully introduce the opportunity. Following our research and output, our client was able to successfully hire a Head of Network Architecture for the research organisation as well as a new Director for their Network and Security Lab. In addition, the client was pleased to improve diversity in their leadership team as both the new hires were women.
