THE CHALLENGE

Miramar was retained by a global materials solutions provider and a manufacturer of plastics to recruit for their new Global Automotive Lead role to be based in Germany. Following a major acquisition and portfolio integration, this position was newly created and was designed to further penetrate and develop high level relationships within OEMs and Tier 1 automotive players. The challenge was to find a candidate profile with the right blend of technical and commercial expertise, who was also highly skilled in project management and business and market development.

 

THE SOLUTION

Our approach to the market was structured around two key areas of focus. We primarily focused on chemicals companies with European locations that have automotive end clients. As a secondary target pool, we analysed Tier 1 automotive suppliers with a European presence. As there was also a preference for a German speaker, we focused began with candidates based in Germany, and we gradually extended our reach to other European countries that could potentially offer the right talent profile.

 

RESULT

We identified and engaged with more than 150 candidates at various levels of expertise and, at our clients request, we began presenting a rolling shortlist within 3 weeks of the project launch. From a diverse shortlist of 8 candidates, 4 profiles were selected for client interview and one offer was made. The successful candidate was a practiced business developer with a commercial track record in the automotive industry and confirmed leadership and stakeholder management skills that aligned with the technical background and knowledge that would allow them to be successful in the role.
